At TNO
Contribute to tomorrow’s world. Envision it. Become Process Architect Integrated Photonics at TNO in Eindhoven.
About this position
Are you looking for a challenging project, at the boundary between science and engineering? Integrated photonics is rapidly emerging. It uses complex optical circuits to process and transmit signals of light, similar to the routing of electrical signals in a computer microchip, but using less energy and transmitting data faster. Applications include ‘green’ datacenters, LIDAR for driverless cars, advanced sensor and quantum communication. Do you have industrial experience with Integrated Photonics? TNO/Holst Centre is looking to expand its team of engineers and researchers.
What will be your role?
TNO’s mission is to apply scientific knowledge and technology into higher TRL (Technology Readiness Level) and MRL (Manufacturing Readiness Level) applications. We do this on the topic of integrated photonics as well. In a joint effort with industrial partners, we aim to realize world’s first application prototypes that are manufacturable in high volume and low cost, thus demonstrating the full potential of this exciting new technology.
You will join TNO’s expanding team and work together with globally recognized pioneers to turn the inventions and innovations into industrial successes. You will have a key role in contributing to the definition and development of the required manufacturing processes, i.e., to develop large-area interconnect and assembly processes for photonic integrated chips in line with the main technology trends towards higher electrical (modulation) bandwidths, lower-loss and more robust circuits, wider wavelength-range coverage, further miniaturization and integration density, and closer integration with electronics. You will be working at the interface of materials science, process technology, microelectronics and chip packaging in a multidisciplinary research environment.
You will be working in in challenging and complex high tech projects. You will be working in close collaboration with other TNO departments in Delft, Eindhoven and with peers in the newly established Photonic Integration Technology Center (PITC) whose expertise will be needed to help you demonstrate the capabilities of your prototypes.
How do you want to contribute to tomorrow's world? How big can your impact be? Come and work at TNO and envision it.
What we expect from you
MSc or PhD degree in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering or materials science.
At least 3 years experience in semiconductor-related industry in the field of integrated photonics and/or advanced packaging and/or assembly engineering.
